A coaching story of grief and loss....
In December, 2006 tragedy struck my family. Our beloved female Newfoundland dog, “Marlee” was found dead in a ditch close to our home three weeks after she went missing. Three days before my birthday, Marlee broke loose and took off from my property. She was black and it was dark and I couldn’t see to find her. Despite my efforts to bring her home alive and well, she got hit by a vehicle and was left for dead.

Following her return, I felt so angry for her running away and leaving me. She was my best friend and constant companion. As I kneeled down beside her while a grave was being prepared, I sobbed feeling so hurt that she left, and wondered why a beautiful soul could die such a violent death.

Six months later, I feel great. And guess what, I have another beautiful black Newfoundland dog that brings me lots of joy. How did I recovery so successfully? Well, I was coached. About a month or so after Marlee’s death, I was coached to let go of the final images and emotions I had of Marlee that held me back from moving forward and loving again. In doing so, I now think and speak frequently of Marlee and the good times we shared with love and joy. I am happy to confess there are no more tears of sadness!

A coaching story during tough times....
I had a client come to me looking for relief from his current living situation. He was in the midst of a marriage separation and living in a house with other roommates. He expressed much frustration living with one roommate in particular, as this roommate could easily push my clients “hot buttons”. After seeking counsel and still feeling frustration, he came to me for help.

My client had developed a severe hate for this person and got angry just with his presence. After a short coaching session, I began to notice understanding and empathy enter into his physiology. I sent him home with an assignment to do the next day. Well, two days later my client contacted me in shock and amazement. The anger was gone. This roommate that he couldn’t even stand to be in the same room with ... now received an offer from my client for a drive to where he needed to go. When this offer for a drive occurred, my client stood in shock of what he had just said! From then on things were great between the two. My client thanked me for helping him move from severe dislike to acceptance in just 2 days! I guess you never know how far a change will go.....

When you don’t know what else to do....?
A mother was experiencing a lot of stress and was at the ‘end of her rope’ with her daughter. Each morning her daughter would get up very grumpy, yell at who ever spoke to her, and was very resistance to getting ready for school. She was very slow with eating, cleaning up and deciding what to wear each day. If her mom told her to hurry up, her daughter would get very angry at her and usually an argument would start.

After not knowing what else to do, the mom turned to coaching to fix the problem. I went to the young girl and began asking her questions about what she was feeling and what the problem was. As she willingly expressed herself, feeling the anger of the problem at that moment, I did a simple NLP exercise with her. As I continued with this exercise I noticed her voice begin to soften and her body relax. We talked a little more and then I left.

I am happy to tell you that the little girl is doing just fine in the morning. After two weeks, the mom suddenly noticed that her daughter was no longer angry instead she was very pleasant and cooperative in the morning. The resistance and arguments have stopped!
